Irishmen in the 1st Airborne Division from North Africa to Arnhem by David Truesdale

This book tells the story of Irishmen who served with the 1st Airborne Division during the Second World War. Having spent the last ten years interviewing over 300 veterans – home and abroad – the author has produced a concise history of their involvement in the War. Coming from all the counties of Ireland, both the ‘loyal’ north and ‘neutral’ south, it covers operations from North Africa to the famous Arnhem campaign, but also those seeking information on their family history. Over the last ten years the author has interviewed some 300 veterans of the Division and many of their reminiscences, told for the first time, are an integral part of the book. An extensive Appendix lists the 279 Irishmen who served in the Airborne Division, or who were associated with Airborne operations.
