Join us for the first Tuesday talk of 2023 on 10th January with Matt Lund, a First World War enthusiast, and Museum Assistant.
Matt’s talk focuses on his research into John William Salkeld, his relative who lived in Thursby, who in 1914 volunteered to serve with the Border Regiment. Like many others, John lost his life on the 1st of July 1916, the first day of the Battle of The Somme.
Matt explains “The First World War has touched almost everyone’s family history in some way. My talk is about the journey I have taken to uncover my personal connection and tell the story of my great great uncle.” In 2016, Matt finally visited the cemetery where John was laid to rest.
