The Museum is located in the grounds of historic Carlisle Castle.
Opening times:
November – March: Saturday to Thursday 10am – 4pm (closed on Fridays)
April – September: Daily 10am – 6pm
October: Daily 10am – 5pm
We are closed 23rd December to 27th December and 30th to the 2nd January 2020

Free Entry
Free entry is also available to those currently serving in The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment (King’s, Lancashire and Border), English Heritage members and children under 5 years old.
Joint Tickets are available from English Heritage if you would like to visit Carlisle Castle as well as the Museum.
Visitors wishing to visit just the Museum only need pay admission at the Museum front desk rather than the English Heritage gatehouse.
Accessibility
We have good access to the museum, with all our main collections housed on the ground floor. There are no steps into the entrance. Any temporary exhibitions are on the upper level which is accessed by a staircase. If required we do have a wheelchair stair lift but it is advisable to phone ahead if needed to enquire further details.
How to find us
We are located within the walls of Carlisle Castle on the North side of Carlisle City Centre; a short walk from the railway and bus station.
By road from North, East and South M6 Junction 43 & 44; A595 from the West.
