Coronavirus update 

We are  following government guidance and are working  in partnership with English Heritage to ensure the whole Castle and Museum is a Covid secure visitor attraction. Alterations to the way we operate include:

  • Pre-booked visits by ticket only – we are offering a joint ticket to visit the Castle and our Museum  – available through the English Heritage website. CLICK HERE  to purchase your tickets and book your slot.
  • We are opening 7 days a week, 10:00am – 5:00pm (Last Admission 3:00pm)
  • John Watts great café will open between 12:00am and 4:00pm to provide delicious teas and coffees, with limited indoor seating and a takeaway option
  • Our main gallery will be open with social distancing in operation

How to find us

We are located within the walls of Carlisle Castle on the North side of Carlisle City Centre; a short walk from the railway and bus station.

By road from North, East and South M6 Junction 43 & 44; A595 from the West.
The best postcode to use for SatNav’s in cars is CA3 8UL which takes you to the nearest car park located next to the Castle. For a list of local car parks click here.

Dogs are welcome in the museum but not in the Café.
