Coach Parking
The Museum is located in the grounds of Carlisle Castle. Parking in the castle is restricted and only strictly available to disabled visitors in cars. There is no access in to the castle for coaches. There are several car parks with coach bays nearby. These are sign-posted and charged-for (not managed by the Museum or English Heritage). Devonshire Walk car park (CA3 8UL) is the nearest and best for coaches, located next to the Castle it’s only a couple of minutes walk from the Museum (not managed by the Museum or English Heritage).
Drop Off Point
The nearest drop off point to the Castle is the lay by directly outside Tullie House. To access this from the East or West you must drive to Hardwicke Circus and take the exit for The West A595. Carry on along Castle Way until you reach Tullie House where there is a lay by to drive in to. You can drop off your party here and visitors can use the crossing to get to the castle. There is a lift on one side of the underpass and a ramp on the other side for disabled. The driver can then park in nearby Devonshire Walk car park.
Please do not drop off groups on the cobbled road that leads up to Carlisle Castle. This is a frequently used access road that requires 24 hour access for vehicles and must remain clear at all times.
