Military Festival
Our 5th annual Military Festival
Re-enactors are polishing their swords and checking their tent pegs as plans for the fifth annual Military Festival get underway. Organised by Cumbria’s Museum of Military Life, the event is scheduled to take place in the grounds of Carlisle Castle on Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st May between 10 and 4pm.
The event is in its fifth year and promises to be another great weekend for all the family. The Castle grounds will be a sea of tents with the annual multi-period encampment, plus an exciting programme of events is also scheduled for both days.
This year’s festival includes a 12th century combat tournament and 18th Century drill, meet a First World War medic and see a WW2 Burma display plus a selection of military vehicles and much more. The event will also include Solway Aviation Museum, the local regimental association, and the modern army.
The ever-popular KidsZone will be on hand to provide dedicated activities for children plus there will be an opportunity to find out more about our Lottery funded Brass Tacks Collections project. On Saturday afternoon, singers from Rocket Theatre group will be entertaining visitors with a WW2 medley whilst the band of Cumbria’s Army Cadet Force will be playing on Sunday afternoon.
‘This is a great way to end May half term’ says Jules Wooding, Museum Manager ‘Whether you are interested in redcoats, armour, military vehicles or WW1 there will be something at the festival for everyone. Where else can visitors meet members of the Home Guard, a modern soldier and veterans all in one location?’
Venue: Carlisle Castle
Time: 10:00am to 4:00pm
