Minutes of Committee Meeting of the Friends of Cumbria’s Museum of Military Life 15 January 2019

 

1) Present:

Membership letter to all members – completed.

Membership to be renewed on 1st of March; if not received by A.G.M., membership lapses. To be included in Constitution Action NDL

5) Membership Issues

132 membership letters sent out – 82 returned so far with £301 recovered in back subscriptions. Membership figures as follows: Ordinary 27;Senior 53; family 15 Honorary & Life 52 Total current membership 147

Some discussion about Life Membership costs. To be discussed at next committee meeting.

Secretary to include cost of Life Membership on next meeting agenda Action J Mills

All committee members to find out the costs of Life Membership. Action All members

Very poor records, estimated that about £2700 has been lost due to admin errors with lack of bank details missing from membership forms. Banks have not queried missing data so fees either not taken or placed in wrong accounts.

Treasurer to look into phantom accounts when he verified as treasure by HSBC. Further form filling to follow. Action C Stitt

Write to 22 members who have a missed payments record. Action M Rosling

6) Financial Issues– set of accounts submitted to committee . No questions raised other than action above.

  • Public to bring items for valuation, given a cloakroom ticket and called forward for confidential valuation. Then if agreeable the valuation is made public Tickets £4 in advance, £5 at the door

10) Museum Report: . Veterans’ lunches, involving young and very old veterans, going very well and much appreciated. Active programme, Tuesday Talks, Lunches Afghan War centenary – grant given for exhibition.

11) AOB

  1. Committee not in favour of writing to Lady Ballyedmond to ask for costs of dinners so that Tax could be claimed back.
  2. Issue of tax claims to be discussed. Geoff to invite Carl over and let NDL & SE know dates so that a meeting could be arranged to understand the issue of tax claims
  3. M Rosling pointed out that cost of stamps was going up in April and as he would be writing to members frequently plus te postage for Lion & Dragon it was agreed that second class stamps 300 large & 200 small would be purchased in advance & stored in museum safe Signature system needed to stock control Action G Stitt & M Rosliong

There being no other business the meeting closed at 17.35 hrs.
