Our Museum’s History
From Regiments to Exhibits: A Journey Through Time
The museum’s origins date back to the late 1930s when the King’s Own Royal Border Regiment first began collecting military artefacts. Over the years, the collection grew, and in 2014, Cumbria’s Museum of Military Life opened its doors within the historic Carlisle Castle. Today, visitors can explore exhibits that cover over 300 years of military history, from the Napoleonic Wars to modern-day conflicts. These exhibits showcase the bravery, dedication, and sacrifices made by Cumbrian soldiers.
