Voices from the Somme 1916-2016
This year is the Centenary of the Battle of the Somme, a campaign associated with horrendous casualty figures which impacted on communities across the country. Cumbria’s Museum of Military Life is embarking on a project that will highlight those local connections and the ordinary people involved. The project will help people understand the campaign and allow Cumbrian’s to pay their respect to those who took part in the Somme offensive of 100 years ago.
Seven Battalions of the Border Regiment, and men from Cumberland and Westmorland in other regiments, were part of the Allied Forces involved in this major offensive of 1916. The Museum aims to connect with some of the communities that sent men to war and tell some of their stories. The project will involve community roadshows, school assemblies, holiday workshops and an exhibition at the Museum.
Be part of this commemorative project and help give these men a voice…100 years on.
Voices from the Somme Exhibition – 1916-2016 24th June to 20th November 2016 at Cumbria’s Museum of Military Life. Normal admission applies.
