Cumbria’s Military Festival 3-4 June 2022
A celebration of Cumbria’s military heritage at Cumbria’s Museum of Military Life, with displays and a day of speakers introducing their research into Cumbria’s military past.
From Friday 3 to Saturday 4 June members of the Military Vehicle Trust will display their vehicles in the Outer Ward.
Matt Zembo, a re-enactor from New York will demonstrate the equipment of a member of our antecedent regiment the 34th Foot as used in the 1770’s in North America.
On Saturday 4 June the morning will focus on the battle of Arroyo in 1811 that gave the 34th Cumberland Regiment of Foot its unique battle honour. Speakers will explore the British and the French sides of the battle. In the afternoon speakers will consider local men’s experience of WW1 and in Burma in WW2.
The Festival will close with a reception with wine during which Brigadier Allan Mallinson a leading military historian and former officer in the King’s Own Royal Border Regiment will pose the question “Why dwell on the past?”
Tickets for the Saturday talks will be available from 1 January 2022 from Cumbria’s Museum of Military Life and Bookends, Castle Street, Carlisle. Tickets include access to the Museum. The Museum and Museum café will be open as usual during the Festival.
